Mr Philip Britton

Philip works as an independent management consultant and is a Clinical Associate with Clinical Panel.

Philip’s career in the NHS was as a Consultant Urological Surgeon, Trust Medical Director and then Clinical Director for Business Development and Service Improvement at the successful Western Sussex Hospitals Trust. He is now a partner in Consilium Partners, a small specialist health consultancy.

During his NHS career, Philip led major service change, many service improvement reviews and set up a highly acclaimed clinical leadership development programme. In consultancy, Philip works in acute Trusts and supports wider system change.

He has supported many urgent and emergency care improvement programmes in large acute Trusts, using evidence and information to ensure there is clinical support for the change and that the change can be implemented and is sustainable. His mentorship of the clinicians through this process is invaluable.

He has supported major system redesign and has worked with clinical teams to develop clinical strategies within and across Trusts. His most recent example of such work was supporting the development of a new formal partnership between Portsmouth Hospitals University Trust and the Isle of Wight Trust. He worked closely with clinical leaders and teams to develop a new overarching clinical strategy for their partnership and detailed strategies and implementation plans for a large cross section of specialties. This was achieved through generating good engagement and support of the clinicians.

He has set up development programmes for clinical leaders in other Trusts, achieving a positive impact from each programme and a strengthening of the clinical leadership in those organisations.

Philip engages with leaders and frontline staff by listening and asking the right questions. As a credible and respected clinical leader, he is able to make a positive impact wherever he works. His passion is to bring together top clinical leadership and the right information to drive continuous improvement and service redesign and achieve successful and sustainable change.

He was awarded his Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership and Management in 2015.
