Paul qualified from Liverpool working in a number of primary dental care posts prior to taking up the post of lecturer at the London Hospital. He then moved to King’s College and onto UCL.
He is currently Chief Facilitator for the Fellowship programme of the FGDP(UK) having held the Vice Dean’s position twice. He also acts as Dental lead for the National Association of Primary Care, Advisor to the Irish Department of Health for their oral health care policy programme and holds an honorary Senior Lecturer post at UCL.
Paul has acted as examiner for the MJDF and is currently an ORE examiner as well as for the Intercollegiate Specialist Final Examination in Dental Public Health. He is a past President of the British Association for the Study of Community Dental Health and has worked for a number of international and national agencies as well as being a member of the European Health Policy Group.
Paul has also worked with the National Audit Office and the Office for Fair Trading and acted as the advisor to the Health Committee on their dental contract reform report and currently is advising the British Dental Association on the contract reform programme.
He has numerous publications and is also a co-author of the undergraduate textbook Essential Dental Public Health and recently edited the FGDP(UK)’s standards document on ‘Dementia Friendly Dentistry’. He is on the Editorial Board of both the British Dental Journal and Primary Dental Care and referees for several other journals.
