Nick has 18 years experience as a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care in Taunton, Somerset. He has been involved in Commissioning since 2013 as Secondary Care Doctor on the Governing Bodies (Boards) of two CCGs, and had a wealth of Board level experience of commissioning at CCG, STP, and wider levels.
He is involved in the developing of STP and Accountable Care systems in two STP footprints in South West. He has specific experience in Quality Assurance, Equality Impact Assessments, Audit Committee, Primary Care assurance, and critical care issues.
Nick has Senior management experience as Clinical Director in an acute trust for four years, and developed a number of significant service improvements.His subspecialty interest in anaesthesia in bariatric and obesity surgery. He leads the anaesthesia and critical care services for the South West regional lead bariatric surgical surgery service, and set this up in 2004. It is the only unit in UK with International Centre of Excellence recognition.
Nick also set up and was Chairman of SOBA (The Society for Obesity and Bariatric Anaesthesia) from 2009-14. SOBA is a national Specialist Society in anaesthesia promoting excellence in anaesthesia for obese patients, with a high profile nationally and internationally, and is the largest society in this field worldwide. Nick has a wealth of experience in managing complex obesity in the anaesthesia and surgical arena, has a national profile, lecturing widely in this field and has been involved in a number of national projects.
Nick also set up a research unit in intensive care in Taunton in 2010.
In 2016 Nick was appointed to the South West Clinical Senate Council.
