Mike is a former GP and Public Health Doctor, and brings extensive experience of clinical leadership and management in both provider and commissioner settings, with a track record of clinical leadership, change management and performance improvement. Mike has particular interest in the design and leadership of integrated health and care systems.
He is currently the Clinical Non Executive Director at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust; CMO for xim (a Health Technology start up); Chair of the Diabetes Professional Care Conferences; and works as a consultant and adviser on a range of health and care services. Mike has supported whole system design programmes across the UK, Ireland and the Middle East; and has advised on commissioning of new entry pharmaceutical products, diabetes services, and integrated care.
Having been a GP principal, and then a Health Authority Deputy Director of Public Health, Mike subsequently held multiple senior clinical leadership roles in national organisations in both public and private sectors, including Chief Operating Officer at NHS Direct, and then Chief Operating Officer for Serco’s Health Division. His last full time appointment was Executive Director of Health & Social Care at West Sussex County Council.
In other national Roles Mike worked for the CQC for 2 years as a primary care medical adviser, has advised the DH through the Urgent Care Board, and is a former member of the Customer Contact Association Industry Council. Mike thus has an enormous breadth of experience, having been a leader, manager, clinician, provider, commissioner, operational lead, policy maker, and quality assessor.
