Welcome to the Clinical Panel, I set this up in 2012 to bridge the gap between the way clinicians work and the way consulting works as nothing else exists to make this easier for both the clinicians and the consultancies.
Consultancies find it difficult to recruit and retain the specific expertise they require, whilst clinicians prefer not to work in isolation and do not understand the commercial arrangements that consultancies use.
I have been a GP partner for 28 years and combined this with consultancy support for 13 years. I have enjoyed a portfolio of interests including Executive Medical Director in a large PCT, elected councillor in our local authority, clinical advisor for the Secretary of State for Health and insights from the Royal College of Physicians, as chair of the GP network and now Lead Fellow for Social Care. In my consulting work I have supported a range of programmes both in the UK and internationally, being specifically recognised for my facilitation skills and knowledge of integrated care.
It would be a pleasure to work with you.
The Clinical Panel is a network of clinicians from various professional backgrounds who have come together to provide advisory services that require clinical insight with management consultancy skills. It consists of a range of senior clinicians who bring national and international experience of:
- health and care delivery, performance and quality improvement,
- health and care systems, design and optimisation,
- digital health services development
- health and care leadership and clinical engagement.
Our panel of clinicians is growing, each member has been carefully chosen as having a blend of senior clinical and managerial experience along with the interpersonal skills required in a consulting environment. There is a comprehensive range of clinical specialities represented that cover most of the clinical areas required by our clients. We can bring in others to suit specific circumstance if required
Healthcare systems within the UK and internationally are struggling to meet rising demands within constrained budgets. The experience of Coronavirus will change the nature and behaviours of healthcare planning and delivery. Our clients understand that costs are driven by clinical decisions. Clinical leadership and engagement is therefore critical to quality and efficiency gains.
Benefits of using Clinical Panel
Clinicians are taking a more prominent role in decisions to secure external support for organisations and systems undergoing change. Clinicians like working with clinicians and differentiating as clinically competent is a critical success factor in winning client work.
Our clinicians can support you throughout business cycles, from identifying opportunities, preparing propositions, successful pitching as well as being embedded in project teams to deliver to a high standard and secure “follow on” engagements.
We have strong industry insights, understand the evidence base for service redesign as well as operational performance and are good at stakeholder relationships. Individually our clinicians bring a range of consulting skills beyond their clinical expertise.
As a large clinical network we have a track record of reaching into all clinical specialities for the support that you require. Working at scale we also provide the confidence that substitutes can be found to cover unforeseen absence at short notice.
We have a broad range of clinical specialties represented that cover most of the clinical areas required by our clients. Each of our clinicians is highly experienced and respected in their own clinical speciality. They have been carefully chosen as having a blend of senior clinical and managerial experience along with the interpersonal skills required in a consulting environment.
Our clinicians work directly and autonomously with you to the standards that you would expect from the professional regulators such as the GMC.
The Clinical Panel is here to support them with any concerns they may have, this could be simply for a second opinion, or for more serious safety concerns at a client site which they feel need to be escalated.
As part of our quality control processes, we are all clinicians and the Clinical Panel offers the clinicians whatever support they require for annual appraisal and revalidation. We will undertake any remedial action required from this or any other feedback comments, though fortunately have not yet had to do so!
Clinicians like working with clinicians and can be resistant to external challenge when it comes from a commercial organisation.
Having a clinician on a pitch team or a delivery team bridges the relationship between a commercial consulting company and a clinical community. In our experience this bridge is a critical success factor in client experience and the success of healthcare projects.
Our panel includes specifically selected clinicians with well developed facilitation skills. This external clinical facilitation of workshops and smaller groups is a game changer for our clients.
We can also provide a more directive approach if required where a client is stuck with implementing service improvements or where there are serious performance concerns.
We have clinical coaches with practical experience of clinical leadership within large healthcare organisations in addition to the coaching skills required to work “one to one” with clinical leaders.
The digital working environment for healthcare is rapidly evolving and is an increasing area of focus for clients, so we have developed a team of clinicians with specific digital expertise.
